I would like to share with you about two of my children, Elise and Nathaniel, who have Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. This condition is when benign tubers grow on the major organs of the body, including the brain, heart, skin, kidneys and lungs. My kids are both affected, and they see a number of specialists. Because of their constant medical needs, I am not able to work outside the home. We go to many doctor appointments and procedures. Nathaniel is currently on a form of chemo that is used to shrink the tubers in his brain. So we are at the hospital frequently getting his blood drawn and getting MRI’s to check the tubers. Both Elise and Nathaniel have tubers in the brain and heart. They are both behind developmentally and are on the autism spectrum. It makes life interesting, but at the same time they are both such bright little lights in my life.
I am so thankful for the Reliance Children’s Foundation for stepping in to help in our time of need. We were struggling to make it through the past winter with our bills getting more expensive each month and things just started piling up. And I had three of my kids in the hospital back to back for different medical needs, so even just affording the gas to get to and from the hospital, on such a tight budget, was something that was weighing on my shoulders. Reliance stepped in at just the right time, because I was unsure how I was going to make ends meet. Thank you so much for the help you provided our family. We are so thankful for your help.
